DOC Police Policy



1. Identification Badges and Vehicle Permits
a. All identification badges and vehicle registrations are issued from the MRSO, located room #1-4512.
b. All DOC employees, Guest Researcher, Contractors, and Contract Employees are responsible for wearing a photo 
identification badge visibly displayed while on duty at this center. Normal badging and vehicle permits hours are from 8:00am to 3:30pm daily, Monday through Friday except holidays.
c. All DOC employees, Guest Researcher, Contractors, and Contract Employees are responsible to have parking permits in car hanging from mirror except for motorcycles.
 
2. Parking Areas
a. You can park anywhere except the following locations:
              - Handicap Spots (unless you have a handicap placard or plates)
              - No Parking Area
              - Loading Zone
              - Where a sign indicates the space is reserved
              - Fire Lanes
b. Long Term parking
1) Notify DOC Police and provide the following information and vehicle needs to be parked in North Parking Lot, the furthest lane close to the fence line. You can do this by calling (303) 497-3530 and speak with the on-duty dispatcher. Please give:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- The dates you need to leave the vehicle
- License Plate number
- Vehicle description (make, model, year, color ) 

3. Speed and Traffic Violations
a. The speed limit are posted on signs and the speeds vary through out the campus. It is up to everyone to pay attention to the signs and to be vigilant of speed limit changes. The speed limit is 20 mph in all areas unless posted.
1) Speed is monitored by radar.
b. Passing other motor vehicles is strictly prohibited.
c. DOC Police Officers issue moving and non-moving citations.
1) We strive to foster an environment where we educate our community through the use of warnings for minor parking violations before you are issued a U.S. District Court Violation Notice, which required a monetary fine or mandatory court appearance.
2) You may receive a U.S. District Court Violation Notice on the first violation of a major traffic infraction. Some offense, but not all, are listed below:
- Parking in a designated Handicap Parking area without a handicap placard.
- Parking in a designated No Parking Anytime areas.
- Parking in a designated  Fire Lane (red curbs).
- Parking in a reserved parking spot.
- Obstructing the Roadway.
- Failing to Yield to Pedestrians.
- Driving while intoxicated.
- Reckless driving.
d. DOC Police may impound any vehicle on DOC grounds as a result of a variety of moving and/or non-moving offenses.

4.  Bicycles

a. Bikes can only be placed in the bicycle racks around the site, including the bicycle rack northeast of the Auditorium and a dedicated bicycle storage are by Annex B (between Wings 3 and 5 of Building 1), among many other locations.

b.
Bicycles that are on the emergency exit ramps or otherwise potentially blocking movement will be removed by EMSS. The ramps with handrails immediately northwest and southeast of Building 1 Auditorium are emergency exits from the Auditorium.
There are signs posted that the ramps are emergency exits and nothing can be placed on the ramps.

c.
No bikes or other items can be placed in areas that interfere with normal or emergency movement of people, such as by the front entrance of Building 1.

5. Prohibited Items

a. The following are some items that you should not bring on federal grounds:

- Illegal Drugs*
- Explosives
- Guns
- Bow and arrow
- Knife with a blade longer that 2.5 inches butterfly
- Knife switch blade spring assisted knife
- Illegal Knifes (switch blades,
butterfly, ballistic knives)
- Alcohol
- Drug Paraphernalia
 
     *Federal government does not recognize prescription marijuana.
