This .avi gives a visual representation of wave propagation in a thin film coating.

coatwav1.avi

These two movies show the elastic waves propgating on the free surface of a semi-infinite tetragonal solid. The source is a transverse delta pulse at the origin at time=0. The free surface is normal to the c-axis of the tetrgaon. Notice the anisotropy in the wave fronts as well as particle displacements because the elastic wave velocities are different in different directions. You will first see the quasi-longitudinal wave, then the quasi-transverse wave, and then the Rayleigh wave, which is the slowest. These results were obtained by using the delta-function representation of the Green's function.
