April, 2003 EEEL's Schlager Honored by the TIA |
|
John Schlager of EEEL's Optoelectronics Division received a certification of appreciation from the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), thanking Dr. Schlager for his significant contributions to the Working Group on Modal Dependence of Multimode Fiber Bandwidth. This work has led to several published standards and technical publications and is the foundation for a new solution set supporting high bit-rate data communication applications." Schlager's quick response in resolving problems in evaluating the bandwidth of multimode optical fiber links facilitated the timely approval of a pivotal standard and helped accelerate acceptance of local area network products in the market. The differential mode delay measurement system he developed had a temporal resolution 50 times better than those being used by the industry at the time. His fiber measurement expertise and coordination of several large round-robin comparisons among the industry helped speed development of the IEEE's 1 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s ethernet standards that are now in place.
