Extension of Due Date for Abstracts: The 2009 (6th annual) Boulder Laboratories Postdoctoral Poster Symposium will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2008 from 1 to 4 p.m., in the David Skaggs Research Center Multipurpose Room GC-402. NATIONAL GET OUTDOORS DAY, June 13

National Get Outdoors Day is a new annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. This national event is designed as a day to connect kids and their families to the wonders of the great outdoors – from our neighborhood parks to our nearby mountains.

This event will be held in City Park, Denver, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

SAFETY DAYS, June 16, 17, and 18

Mark your calendars as Safety Days are coming soon to a conference room near you.  Starting June 16 and running through June 18  the Office of Safety, Health, and Environment  will be offering a variety of classes.  This year’s theme will be “ Hazardous Material Safety in the workplace and home”.  These classes are open to all Boulder Labs employees.

The following is a partial list of classes and events:

BIKE TO WORK DAY BUSINESS CHALLENGE, June 24
Be the solution to pollution!

NOAA carries lead over NIST for Bike to Work Day Competition

3 weeks to go! There's still time to register on NIST's team for Bike to Work Day (BTWD) and help us take the lead over NOAA and the other 235 companies in Boulder that are competing in the Business Challenge (see current stats below.)

All you have to do to participate in BTWD is commit to use alternate transportation (minimize fossil fuel usage on BTWD via biking, unicycling, walking, busing, carpooling, skateboarding, or rollerblading to work on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. There are prize incentives for registering and Free Food on BTWD! Plan to stop at one of the Breakfast Stations on your way to work for a free meal. Plus the Boulder Laboratories Employee Association, BLEA, is sponsoring food and beverages for a "2nd Breakfast" at 10:30 a.m. for all NOAA and NIST BTWD participants.

OFFICE 2007 AND OUTLOOK 2007 TRAINING – REGISTER NOW!

Getting Started with Outlook – 3 hour class

6/10/09 – 1-4 p.m.

MS Office 2007 – Getting Started with the new user interface – 90 minute class

6/10/09 – 9:30-11 p.m.

To register for these classes, log into the CLC (https://doc.learn.com/nist).  Select Training and Development on the left side of the screen.   Boulder Instructor Led Training then appears at the top of the screen in red and blue.  If you have any questions or need your CLC password reset, please contact iTAC at ext. 5375.

Cost for the 3 hour class is $100 – the 90 minute class is $75 – all charges will come out of cost centers already provided by the OUs.  There is no need to complete any other paperwork for this training – just the CLC registration!

NOAA GIFT SHOP MONTHLY SPECIAL

The NOAA Gift Shop’s monthly special for June: $1 off for every $10 spent on toys. Normal hours are 12-1 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday. The shop is located in DSRC 1C307.

GSA EXCESS: If we do not have what you are looking for, go to the GSA’s website: http://gsaxcess.gov/. You will need to register; once that is complete; you will have access to excess property from other Federal Government agencies.

PLANNED PROJECTS

Building 1

1. EMSS will begin the renovation in rooms 1- 2244, 2245, and 2246. Electrical work will begin June 1.  This phase of the work is expected to take 2 weeks.  Interior renovation work and mechanical work will follow. Contact: Lanny Scarlett, ext. 4466.

Building 1 Extension (B1E)

1. Excavation & construction between Building 1 and 2 is continuing. Contact: Bryan Faktor, ext. 7841.

Building 26

1. EMSS/Diamond Hills is continuing to provide mold remediation through July 24.  Work will take place at night, and on weekends & holidays from 5:30 p.m- 6:00 a.m. Contact Dale Thoele, ext. 4009.

Site Wide

1. Weather permitting, on June 13, EMSS and the contractor ERS will be performing transformer (XMR) PM’s in Building 24, XMR-023 & 024, and Green Mtn, XMR-053. Work will begin at 7 a.m. No electrical outages associated with this PM work are anticipated. Contact: John Delight, ext. 5776.

3. On, June 6, EMSS will connect the chilled water from the CUP to Building 1 and 2.  There may be some interruptions to the chilled water system in those buildings during this changeover. Contact: Bill Seader, ext. 6314.

4. EMSS will begin the preventative maintenance work on the exhaust fans throughout the site beginning June 1.  Non-critical exhaust fans will be done first and are expected to take 2 weeks. Contact Bill Seader, ext. 6314

NEW PERKSCARD PROGRAM

Hopefully by now you have received you new PERKS CARD.  Some people have expressed concern about registering to use the card.  You do not have to fill in any of the personal information.  All that is required is an e-mail and a password.  Even the e-mail does not need to be real! 

However, even if you do fill out the information none of this information will be sold or used to solicit you.  The PERKS CARD program was initiated by BLEA to consolidate discounts and benefits from local area businesses into one convenient and easy place.  Dozens of businesses have been included providing a wide variety of services.
